Peshawar – Torkham road, historically known as the famous Khyber Pass, has for centuries remained the chosen route for invaders between the Indo-Pak sub-continent, Afghanistan and other Central Asian states. It traverses in the erstwhile tribal areas of Khyber and one can see the famous Bab-e-Khyber, Jamrud Fort, Shagai Fort, Ali Masjid, Michnai Fort and Landi Kotal en route.

The road is now part of the National Highway (N-5) which connects Pakistan with Afghanistan at Torkham border, and thus serves as international transit route with its bordering country. It is 46 Km long dual carriage way, with major project components comprising both flexible and rigid pavement, widening sections of the road, a number of bridges, multi-cell culverts, weigh bridges, check posts with buildings for the security staff, drains and retaining walls, etc.

The project was implemented by FATA secretariat; while FWO, supported by M/s NESPAK, was the Contractor for this engineering, procurement and construct (EPC) mode of contract..
