Kari Muskhur HPP is a run of the river scheme on the Mastuj River. The dam/intake site, proposed 2.6 Km downstream of Kari village, is accessible through Chitral-Mastuj road.

A concrete gravity dam of 40m height is to be constructed across the Mastuj River to divert 345 cumecs design discharge and convey it to the powerhouse through a circular headrace tunnel of about 27 Km length and 10.8 m diameter. The project residential colony is to be accessed through construction of 293 m long bridge across the river. Also, along right bank of the Mastuj River, 1.9 Km long road tunnel, two bridges on the river upstream and downstream of the dam, and 1.56 Km of road to be constructed to replace the inundated section of Chitral-Mastuj road.

Four (04) vertical shaft Francis turbines, each 123.75 MW capacity with generators, overhead gantry crane of 2×175 tonnes capacity, SCADA and Power Line Carrier (PLC) are the major equipment, with monitoring/communication systems to be installed under the project. Gas Insulated Switchyard (GIS) has been proposed with power evacuation to the National Grid through the proposed 500kV Chitral transmission line.

On average, Kari Muskhur HPP will add about 2,165 GWh annual energy to the National Grid.
