The project comprises identification of 15 potential hydropower sites and undertaking feasibility and detailed design of 6 selected from the list of 15 HPPs. Size of the projects varies from 3 MW to 50 MW. These are located on different tributaries of the Jhelum, Neelum and Poonch rivers in Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Kotli districts of AJK.
- Neelum River: Sharda-II, Kharigam, Tejian, Leswa, Mirpura, Panjkot, Deolian, Jhing-III Weir-I, Jhing-III Weir-II and Dhani Mai HPPs
- Jhelum River: Awan Abad, Jandar Bain, Batlian, Hattian Bala-I, Hattian Bala-II, Nairy Bela, Dhal Qazian and Lohar Bela HPPs
- Poonch River: Qumroti-Panag and Khuiratta HPPs
Each project comprises (more or less) the following main components:
- Diversion Weir (Tyrolean Type and Lateral Intakes)
- Headrace Channels or Headrace Tunnels
- Cross Drainage structures
- Sediment Excluder / Sand trap
- Forebay and surge tanks
- Penstock and pressure shafts
- Spillway and bypass systems
- Powerhouse and switchyard
- Tailrace Channel
