Name of Project : Detailed Engineering Design of Hanzel HPP
Location / Country : Gilgit District of Gilgit Baltistan / Pakistan
Client : CNEEC – FWO JV
Funded by : Govt. of Pakistan
Commencement : December 2021
Completion : December 2026
Hanzel HPP (40 MW) is located on Gilgit river, a right bank tributary of the Indus river, about 11.5 Km from Gilgit town.
Based on the feasibility study conducted in 2009 and reviewed in 2017, NA WPD awarded the project to CNEEC – FWO (JV) as Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contract, in September 2021.
AGES, as Design Consultants for the EPC Contractor, reviewed the tender layout proposed initially for 20MW on the right bank with gravity flow system, and recommended an alternative layout for 40MW on the left bank with pressurized conveyance system. The intake structure will connect to a headrace tunnel of 3.7 Km, which will convey flow to the powerhouse via a pressure shaft and pressure tunnel. The project works also include a 132 KV Switchyard with 20 Km of Transmission Line and a Grid Station in Gilgit, with a distribution network of about 15 Km and Infrastructure works comprising the Employer’s offices and residential facilities, roads and a main bridge across the Gilgit river.
