PHLCEP envisages to irrigate, through two main pressure pipes off taking from the Gandaf tunnel of Tarbela dam, a CCA of about 8,727 ha located at higher elevations and thus not commanded by the existing Pehur High Level Canal (PHLC). The project covers two main command areas: Janda Boka area with CCA of about 1,316 ha, and the Indus Ambar area with CCA of about 7,411 ha.

Construction works of the project were packaged into 3 Lots.

Lot-01: Janda Boka Steel Pressure Pipe, Canals and Allied Structures

  • Steel pressure pipe of 3.67 Km (0.9 – 1 m dia) from the existing Gandaf tunnel up to Janda Boka main canal.
  • A trapezoidal canal (7.3 Km) and three minor canals (3.73 Km). Main structures include siphons, aqueducts, cross-drainage culverts, road bridges, foot bridges, and outlets, etc.

Lot-02: Indus Ambar Steel Pressure Pipe and Allied Structures

  • Steel pressure pipe of 24.7 Km (1.5 to 2.37 m dia) from the existing Gandaf tunnel of Tarbela Dam.

Lot-03: Indus Ambar Irrigation Canal System and Allied Structures

  • Irrigation canal system consisting of a main canal (8.59 Km), two distributary canals (10.52 Km) and five minor canals (14.26 Km) to serve both the Indus and Ambar areas.
  • Other structures include head regulators, cross regulators, an escape, aqueducts, siphons, drainage culverts, super passages, road bridges, foot bridges, under passes, fall/drop structures, outlets, bifurcates and trifurcates, etc.

In addition, the project also includes command area works including water courses land levelling; installation of high efficiency irrigation systems; and establishment of demonstration plots.

The project has two outputs (i) Available water for agriculture-use increased in the project area, and (ii) Water-use skill and farm management capacities increased in the project areas.
